Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero was an American singer and model from the United States. She is also a co-star in Prince's 1984 film, Purple Rain. Kotero was the female lead performer in Apollonia 6 and co-starred in Prince's film Purple Rain from 1984. Apollonia, a singer/actress who was christened by Prince in 1984 was one of many female artists of the 1980s who benefitted from Prince. Patricia Kotero began her acting and modeling career in Santa Monica California, in the late '70s. This included an appearance on CHiPS. In 1984, she was the title of female lead in Prince's Purple Rain (during which time she switched her names) and replaced Vanity in the female trio Vanity 6 performing with them in the movie under the name Apollonia 6. Sex Shooter on the soundtrack had a small hit for her trio but as Prince's Duet Partner on Take Me with You she had more success. When the two had a falling out regarding the direction she was taking in her career Apollonia 6 broke up, and Kotero stopped her collaboration with Prince. She was in a number of small films, including the sequel to Purple Rain Under the Cherry Moon (which she did not want to be in), and then landed the lead role as Falcon Crest on the Night-Time Drama Falcon Crest from 1985-1986. Apollonia made her official debut in 1988. But the R&B/dance album, which was rather pedestrian and failed to make a big impression with the music buyers of the at the time, soon vanished. The following decade saw she continued to be active as an actress (if she was a bit off the radar) and also in a few film roles, television appearances and an exercise video. Apollonia published a Spanish/English CD entitled Stay with me in 1997. She later returned to school earned a filmmaking degree which led to her forming a production firm, which mainly focuses on the field of children's TV. Apollonia has many hats.
